Title

Power for orphanages in Ukraine this winter

Description

I’m raising money to buy portable power stations for orphanages in Ukraine. Every €474 buys one.

Winter brings the longest power cuts. A power station is a large rechargeable battery: it charges when the grid is on and keeps lights, phones and a gas boiler running when it goes off.

The power station will be bought directly from the supplier and shipped to Dhana Aid Organization, a registered charity in Lviv, Ukraine (EDRPOU 45347568). Dhana Aid delivers it to an orphanage in need within a week of it arriving.

How the money will be used: each time we raise enough for one, I will buy a power station myself, directly from the supplier, and post the receipt and a delivery photo here. No money is sent to Ukraine; only the power stations are.

GoFundMe asks organizers to explain how the money will reach the cause. The last paragraph does that for you.

For students

Organizing a fundraiser is real experience: planning, writing, outreach and following through.

It may count towards your community service hours. Many schools require volunteer or community hours, such as the 40 community involvement hours needed to graduate in Ontario. Speak with your teacher or guidance counsellor before you start, to check whether your fundraiser can count.

Once your first power station is delivered, Dhana Aid, a registered volunteer organization in Ukraine, can give you a certificate or a reference letter describing what you did.

Questions? Just ask. Students, parents and teachers are all welcome to email us anytime, before, during or after the fundraiser.

Questions

Which countries can I fundraise from?

GoFundMe works in about 20 countries, including Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and much of Europe. The organizer must live there and have a local bank account.

Can I raise money for more than one power station?

Yes, and we hope you will. Set any goal you like: two, five, ten or more. You can buy one each time you raise enough, so orphanages get power sooner, or buy them all at the end. Any of the three models works, from €474 to €854, and leftover money can go towards essentials from our Amazon wish list.

Are gifts to my fundraiser tax-deductible?

Usually not. Personal fundraisers on GoFundMe generally aren’t tax-deductible for the people who give.

Should I tell you before I start?

Please do. Email info@dhanaaid.org so we can cheer you on and look out for your power station.
